Being a business owner is tough. You have staff to hire, train and sometimes fire. You have payroll and cash flow to contend with. Then there is marketing and sales that have to be constantly attended to. So yes, let's not kid ourselves. Owning and running a business, especially in these economic times, is tough, hard work. It also can be the most rewarding thing you ever do next to successfully raising your kids. I know because I did just that.

Ten years ago, with two small boys, I started a new business. I had no start-up capital; I wasn't certain my idea would work. I had bills to pay, very little cash flow with which to market, and drove a beat-up Chevy Beretta without paint.

Ten years later, my business, PostcardMania, made the Inc 500 and we are on track to make $20 million dollars in revenue this year. I am building a new corporate headquarters for my business that nearly triples my current space of 8,000 sq ft. In it will be a gym, infant care center, and employee cafeteria.

How I accomplished this would take some time to explain. It is not because I have some special Ivy League education. In fact, I never finished high school.

Many different strategies, tactics, and ideas, along with a great deal of persistence, went into PostcardMania's success. What I learned and discovered is applicable to any business.
